Ken the fisho

Ken went fishing* in Darwin Harbour with Dave the friendly skipper and a group of other rookie fishos. Note that someone with a fishing rod or line in the water is not called an 'angler' or 'fisherman'. You're a fisho, mate.

Dave instructed the rookies in the skills of this fine and ancient sport. Now, something may have been lost in translation, but it seems that what you do is bait your line, throw it into the water, let it hit the seabed, jiggle the line around every few minutes, and wait. And wait.
If there were no nibbles in one spot, Dave would move the boat to another spot, aided by his trusty GPS.
In a moment of great exhilaration, Ken was the first to get a bite. Up it came ... victory! Sadly it was too small, so back into the sea it went, without even a photograph being taken. Which means that we will have to trust Ken when he says he has caught a fish.
But happily the other rookies caught larger fish, such as this trevally.
Heading back into Darwin after a thrilling afternoon on the water, the newly anointed fishos had two choices. They could either take their catch home or have it cooked on the spot, on the jetty, served with chips and salad. Ken very nobly opted to take his share of the catch home so he could share it with me.
So I arrived home from my busy work day to be presented with raw fish. I was ... thrilled.
Our share of the catch was three quite sizable chunks of filleted fish. To be quite honest, we're not sure whether these were all trevally or some other fish that were caught on the trip. Whatever they were, they were spanking fresh and jolly good. Plus we were pretty excited about eating fish that had been caught (by proxy) by Ken the fisho.
* I have been encouraging (okay, nagging) Ken to share his fishing experience. Sigh. But here I am instead, passing on the experience second hand.
Freshly caught fish is delicious.
Well done Ken! Nothing like fresh fish for dinner. So has the fishing bug bitten you? 😜
I probably should have doe that!
Ken had told me about his fishing expedition!!
